I called Citi Card and they told me (not verbatim), “a third party had stolen millions of credit cards and that they were going to cancel the current cards and reissue new ones to its customers.  The customer service representative was pretty uninformed otherwise, so I couldn’t get more information.  I also haven’t been able to find any news stories and am not sure if this affects other Citi Card credit cards or if the issue is just with the AAdvantage card.

Check your statements and accounts if you own a Citi Card credit card!

  1. Just to chim in with a me too. Boston area, and Platinum Select card. They indicated that you’d be able to view the unbilled activity online after you receive your new card and activate it. For liability reasons they won’t release the ID of the merchant that lost the information. However, if there are maybe 3 or 4 other people that chime in, we could each generate a list of merchants from the past 2 years of transactions on our cards and intersect the lists and see who falls out.

  5. AAdvantage card for me, except I wasn’t notified. I only found out because someone in Armenia is using my card to go shopping!

  6. It’s not just AAdvantage cards. I have received 2 new Citicards this month with a similar warning. I still can’t find any relevant news on this. Why is this not a big story? I am trying to decide whether to validate the new cards or just close the account. If Citi can’t keep the card numbers secure, I can go elsewhere.

  7. By the way, my two cards are separate business and personal cards. About the only common merchant on these accounts is GoDaddy. Did everyone here buy something on GoDaddy.com? Probably not. I suspect that the leak started in Citicards itself.

  8. My mom is in Colorado and she’s a victim as well. She hasn’t used her card for a couple of years and it has been locked in a safe since. Sounds like they are being a pain in the ass about the charges that are now showing up, too.

She has never bought anything on GoDaddy.
